Dr Ambedkar Central Sector Scheme of Interest Subsidy on Educational Loans for Overseas Studies for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Economically Backward Classes (EBCs)(DACSSISELOSOBCEBC)
Overview
About DACSSISELOSOBCEBC
The Dr Ambedkar Central Sector Scheme of Interest Subsidy on Educational Loans for Overseas Studies is a central government scheme run by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, through its Department of Social Justice and Empowerment. Canara Bank acts as the nodal bank and handles applications and disbursement on behalf of the ministry.
The scheme sits on top of a regular bank education loan rather than replacing it. When an eligible student borrows to study abroad, the government pays the interest that accrues during the moratorium period, which covers the course duration plus the short window before repayment begins. The subsidy is tied to the education loan scheme of the Indian Banks' Association and applies to approved courses at the Master's, M.Phil. and PhD level, so it supports postgraduate and research study rather than undergraduate degrees. It does not cover the principal, only the interest for that period.
It is meant for individual students from the Other Backward Classes and the Economically Backward Classes who have secured admission to an approved overseas course and have taken an education loan from a scheduled bank. The income limits, the loan ceiling and the documents required are fixed by the ministry, and a student applies once the loan is sanctioned.
