Overview

About E-YUVAS:BIRACIF(FPGA)

E-YUVA (Empowering Youth for Undertaking Value Added Innovative Translational Research) is a fellowship run by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), a not-for-profit public sector enterprise set up by the Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science and Technology. The Innovation Fellows track is the route for researchers at the post-graduate level and above, including PhD scholars and post-doctoral candidates.

The scheme backs applied, translational research, the kind that moves a scientific finding toward a usable product. Innovation Fellows are expected to initiate biotech start-ups, so proposals are considered only where there is potential to commercialise an innovative product or technology. The support is composite, pairing a monthly fellowship with a research grant across the fellowship period.

You apply as an individual and work full time at an E-YUVA Centre (EYC), a hub housed within a university or institute and mentored by a BIRAC-supported bio-incubator. Proposals can come from a range of domains, among them healthcare, diagnostics, medical devices, agriculture, clean energy and industrial biotechnology. It fits early-career researchers who want the time, lab access and mentorship to test whether a biotech idea can grow into a company.
