Overview

About CMEAS

The Chief Ministers' Education Assistance Scheme (CMEAS) is a Government of Sikkim scholarship for students who struggle to meet the cost of their education. It was launched by the state's Education Department and is implemented through the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) in Gangtok, where a nodal officer handles verification, approval and disbursement. The assistance goes to students from economically weaker sections, marginalised communities and specially-abled students.

The scheme provides financial assistance for study within Sikkim, elsewhere in India, abroad, and at registered coaching institutions, with the amount set by the student's financial need and the funds available. To qualify, a student must be a Sikkim domicile from the Economically Weaker Section, enrolled at a recognised institution, with annual family income within the limit the government sets from time to time. Special consideration is given to students from marginalised and minority communities, Divyangjan and orphans.

Applications are offline. A student collects the prescribed form from the designated cell at the Chief Minister's Office, Tashiling Secretariat, Gangtok, and submits it there with the required documents, which include a Certificate of Identification, a bonafide certificate from the institution, previous marks statements and bank details. The financial assistance is released on a semester-wise or annual basis, subject to satisfactory academic progress.
