Overview

About VS-FAUSMPHS

The Vidyajyothi scheme is run by the Social Justice Department, Government of Kerala, which implements it through the Kerala Social Security Mission. It gives financial assistance to students with disabilities so they can meet the cost of uniforms and study materials for the school or college year.

The stated purpose is the educational upliftment of students with disabilities, who often carry extra costs that families on low incomes struggle to meet. The assistance is graded by the level of study, starting from the high-school classes (Class 9 onward) and running through higher secondary, ITI and polytechnic courses, degree and diploma programmes, and up to postgraduate study, with the largest number of slots reserved for the school stages.

It is meant for students whose disability is certified at 40 percent or above by a Medical Board and who study at a government, autonomous, or non-government (aided or unaided) institution in Kerala. Annual family income cannot exceed Rs 1 lakh, and priority is given to students from BPL (Below Poverty Line) families. The tier-wise benefit amounts, the number of slots per district, and the documents required are set out in the scheme's official guidelines.
