Overview

About AHST

The Advance / High Skill Training component sits within the "Development of Industries" scheme run by the Industries and Commerce Department of the Government of Puducherry. It is delivered through the District Industries Centre (DIC), the district-level agency the department set up in 1978 to support entrepreneurs and artisans across the Union Territory.

It is aimed at two kinds of applicants. The first is someone who has finished a basic training course and wants to go further in the same trade. The second is a candidate who already holds a technical qualification and wants specialised, higher-skilled training. In both cases the stated goal is the same: to help the trainee either start a venture of their own or find suitable employment in a competitive field.

The benefit is composite. Selected candidates are sponsored for relevant courses at recognised training institutions, generally in neighbouring states, and are supported with a stipend and one-time travel assistance while the training runs. Support is offered to individuals who are natives or long-term residents of the Union Territory of Puducherry, and the exact stipend and eligibility terms are set by the department.
