STEM Lab(STEML)
Overview
About STEML
STEM Lab is a state scheme in Uttarakhand that sets up laboratories for science, technology, engineering and mathematics inside government development blocks. It is run by the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), an autonomous body of the Government of Uttarakhand under the Department of Information and Science Technology. UCOST is working to place the labs across all 95 development blocks in the state.
The aim is hands-on learning rather than textbook-only teaching. Each lab gives students and teachers the equipment and space to run STEM experiments and build practical skills. The benefit comes in kind, as physical lab infrastructure sited in the blocks and not as a cash payment, and UCOST has tied the effort to the goals of the National Education Policy 2020.
The scheme is meant for government school students and their teachers in Uttarakhand's development blocks. UCOST is rolling it out in phases, beginning with Dehradun and the border districts before reaching the rest, so whether a lab is available in a given area depends on when one has been set up there.
