Overview

About SIPGRS

The Scheme of Internship for Post-Graduate/Research Students is run by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the central government ministry responsible for India's official statistics. It places students of statistics and allied subjects inside the country's statistical system for a short, structured internship, so they can see how official data is collected, processed, analysed and published.

The purpose is practical exposure. You spend the internship getting familiar with the day-to-day working of official statistics in India, and the scheme is also meant to build awareness of the Indian Statistical Service as a career path. Placements are offered both at offices in New Delhi and at MoSPI and National Statistical Office locations elsewhere in the country.

It is open to post-graduate and research students from recognised universities and institutions in statistics, mathematical statistics, operations research, economics, demography, or an applied field of statistics. The internship runs for two months from the date of joining, and interns who complete it receive a monthly stipend and a certificate from the office they were attached to.
