Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship For Single Girl Child(PG-IGSSGC)

There is no annual calendar to work back from here. The scheme record leaves the opening and closing dates blank, and the guidelines fix the timing no more tightly than once in a year, with a short notification uploaded to the UGC website when a round begins. That notification, not a rumoured date, is what a candidate is actually waiting for.

The portal's scheme list carries a harder fact for anyone waiting. On NSP's list of scholarships for the 2026-27 academic year this scheme is not named at all: the two entries filed under UGC are the National Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies and Ishan Uday, and every stage of both, from the scheme itself to student application to verification, reads NOT YET OPENED. Schemes that are running publish their full stage-by-stage calendar in the same place, so the absence is visible rather than hidden behind a closed window.

The conditions on the student are set out in the scheme record. The condition that settles most applications sits in the guidelines and is about her institution: the scheme reaches only universities, institutions and colleges recognised under the relevant sections of the UGC Act, deemed to be universities eligible to receive grants-in-aid from UGC, universities and colleges funded by the central or a state government, and Institutes of National Importance.

That list is worth checking before the form, not after it. UGC keeps its own register of the colleges it recognises under those sections on its site, searchable by college and state, and because the host institution is the party that verifies the online application, a student sitting outside these categories has nobody who can push her claim forward.

Age is read at one fixed point. UGC's scheme page allows girl students up to the age of 30 years at the time of admission to PG courses, so the reference date is the admission, not the day the portal opens.

The three exclusions in the record close the obvious doors: distance mode, a deemed university that takes no central or state funds, and a family with both a son and a daughter. Two more live in the procedure and take the award away after a student has already applied.

The guidelines put the host institution in the path of the award: what reaches UGC is an online form the institution has already verified, and a form left incomplete is thrown out summarily rather than sent back for a fix. A claim the college never verified is not a claim in a queue. The second is timing: the scholarship is awarded from the date of joining the first-year course as certified by the university, institution or college, so a student who arrives at the portal in her second year has nothing to attach the award to.

There is no fresh application in year two. The guidelines renew the scholarship for the next year of study on receipt of the renewal, and name two ways it ends. A student who is not promoted to the next class or level forfeits it. A student who changes her course of study forfeits it from the date of that change, which makes a subject switch after the first year a financial decision as much as an academic one.

Renewal also waits on paperwork the student cannot file herself, the institution's progress report and its funds utilisation certificate, described under Documents Required below. Awardees from earlier years stay on the older pattern of assistance through the UGC and Canara Bank portal rather than moving to the current route.

The award is a flat annual amount with nothing layered on top of it.

Read the last row strictly. No additional grant is payable in lieu of hostel charges, medical charges and the like, so a hosteller receives the same Rs 36,200 a year as a day scholar, per the scheme page. Tuition is a separate matter and cuts the other way: the guidelines record an expectation that institutions admitting these students to a first-year PG course will not charge them tuition fees, which is a direction to colleges rather than a reimbursement the student can claim.

Two of the papers in the record are UGC's own formats, and both are heavier than their names suggest. The affidavit in Annexure-II is sworn on Rs 50 stamp paper by the girl's father or mother, states that she is a single girl child, twin daughter or fraternal daughter and that there is no other male or female child in the family, and carries the seal and signature of an SDM, a First Class Magistrate or a gazetted officer not below the rank of Tehsildar, per the guidelines.

The joining report in Annexure-I is not the student's document at all. Her institution certifies the course she has joined, the date of joining, her enrolment number, her category, and her undergraduate marks or CGPA with the equivalent percentage, and a verifying officer signs and seals it.

The two remaining papers fall due after the first year and belong to the college: a progress report carrying the percentage of marks the student obtained, and a funds utilisation certificate. A student whose second-year payment has not moved should ask her office whether both have gone up.

Everything runs online on the National Scholarship Portal, and only after UGC initiates the process and publishes a short notice on its own website. The student files the application, her host institution verifies it, and an unverified or incomplete form goes no further. Applications are invited once a year.

Aadhaar carries the payment. The guidelines record the ministry instruction that Aadhaar is used as the identifier for disbursing government scholarships paid directly into the beneficiary's account, under the Aadhaar Act, so an account that is not seeded is the last place a sanctioned award can stall.

Tracking is best done tool by tool rather than by refreshing one screen. On NSP, Application Status speaks only to the form, which for this scheme usually means whether the college has verified it yet; Track Your Payment answers the separate question of whether a sanctioned annual instalment has actually moved; and Check Aadhaar Seeding Status, alongside the portal's note on seeding Aadhaar with a bank account, covers the one failure that stops a DBT release after everything else has gone right. When none of the three explains the silence, the portal publishes scheme-wise nodal officers, an NSP helpdesk, a PFMS helpdesk for payment failures and a grievance registration route.

There is no merit list to beat. The guidelines set no marks cutoff, no interview and no ranking beyond the eligibility test, so verification decides an application rather than competition. UGC's scheme page puts the slots at 3000 approx. and adds the words No Cap against them.

Two selection details help planning. The award runs from the certified date of joining, so a late admission does not shorten it arbitrarily, and the guidelines expressly permit an awardee to hold another scholarship during the tenure of this one.

The scheme is implemented and monitored by UGC, and the terms that bite are the forfeiture rules already covered: no promotion, no scholarship; a change of course, and the award stops from the date of the change. Payment is annual and by DBT, which ties continuation to a live, Aadhaar-seeded bank account in the student's own name.

The guidelines also make the institution a party to the award rather than a postbox. It verifies the application, certifies the joining report, files the progress report and the utilisation certificate, and is expected not to charge tuition fees from the girl students it admits to first-year PG courses under the scheme.
