Post Graduate Scholarship for University Rank Holders Scheme(PGSURHS)
Overview
About PGSURHS
The Post Graduate Scholarship for University Rank Holders is a central scholarship run by the University Grants Commission (UGC), a statutory body under the Department of Higher Education. It supports students who placed first or second in their undergraduate examinations and go on to a postgraduate course.
Its stated aim is to attract talented students into higher education and to promote academic excellence at the postgraduate level. The award is a cash benefit paid month by month through Direct Benefit Transfer into the student's bank account, and it is tenable for the full duration of the postgraduate course, up to a maximum of two years.
The scheme is aimed at first and second rank holders at the university level in undergraduate courses across the sciences, social sciences, commerce and languages, who then enrol in a regular postgraduate programme. It is a narrow, merit-based award rather than a broad-need scholarship, so the exact rank thresholds, subject list, marks and age conditions on the myScheme listing decide who qualifies.
