Post Graduate Scholarship Scheme for GATE/GPAT Qualified Students-AICTE(PGSSGATEGPATQSAICTE)

There is no permanent calendar. AICTE fixes the window each year by notification, which is why the scheme record carries no open or close date of its own. The schedule published for the 2025-26 academic year is the current shape of it.

The pattern across recent years is an early-September opening and a December close, and it has shifted. The portal opened on 18 September 2023 for that year, with students closing on 30 November 2023 and institute verification on 15 December 2023 (2023-24 notification). For 2024-25 the opening moved up to 2 September 2024, with the same 30 November close and institute verification again on 15 December (2024-25 notification).

The 2025-26 schedule differs in shape, not only in dates. Both earlier notifications gave the institute's student-ID creation and the student's online submission a single shared deadline; 2025-26 splits them, putting the institute's cut-off at 10 December 2025 and the student's submission at 15 December 2025 (AICTE PG scholarship notification 2025-26). A student still waiting on a login in that final week is waiting on a door the college has already closed.

Extensions do happen, and AICTE publishes them on the same page rather than by email. Its scheme page carries an extension notification for 2023-24 and, from an earlier cycle, an extension of the last date to 20 March for students and 31 March for institutes (PG Scholarship Scheme page).

The binding test is the score at the moment of admission. A student has to hold a valid GATE or GPAT result when the seat is taken, and a student who clears the exam after the date of admission is not eligible whatever the reason, in the wording of AICTE's guidelines for the PG grant scheme for GATE/GPAT qualified students. The admission has to be full time.

AICTE's general instruction page for students adds the filters that catch people after they have applied. Part-time admissions are not eligible. GATE holders qualify through engineering and architecture programmes and GPAT holders through pharmacy programmes, not across each other. An admission falling before or after the score's validity window is not considered. A creamy-layer candidate who qualified under the OBC category is not eligible, and a reserved-category claim with no authentic certificate behind it is not eligible either.

Which master's programmes are actually covered is the one thing worth confirming with your own department before counting on the money, because AICTE's own documents differ. The guidelines page titled for GATE/GPAT qualified students names Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Master of Architecture and Master of Pharmacy (AICTE). The 2023-24 scheme guidelines name Master of Engineering, Master of Technology and Master of Design against a valid GATE or CEED score (AICTE). The notifications that actually open the portal are narrower again: the one for 2023-24 invited institute proposals for M.E., M.Tech., M.Arch. and M.Des. against a valid GATE or CEED score card (AICTE), and those for 2024-25 and 2025-26 dropped architecture and named M.E., M.Tech. and M.Des. only (AICTE, AICTE). Meanwhile the general instruction page AICTE still publishes keeps GPAT candidates in pharmacy programmes on the eligible list. Nothing on AICTE's site resolves one document against the other, so a pharmacy applicant should get the institute's PG coordinator to say in writing which instruction the college is working to for that year's intake.

The rules that most often knock out an otherwise eligible student are banking rules. A no-frills account, a Jan Dhan account, an account carrying limits on transactions or credits and a joint account are all refused, and the account may not be closed or shifted during the course (AICTE PG scholarship notification 2025-26). A minor's account is refused as well, and AICTE will only credit an account that its Aadhaar seeding has made active (Responsibilities of Institutions).

Leaving mid-course is not a quiet exit. For scholars who left on or after 1 October 2020 the scholarship stops (AICTE PG scheme guidelines 2023-24), and the institute is separately instructed to recover what the student has already drawn and refund it to AICTE by demand draft (Responsibilities of Institutions). The same instruction tells institutes to keep watch for a scholar drawing money from another source, in which case the scholarship is discontinued and the entire amount has to come back. The 2023-24 guidelines describe that second situation more gently: the scholar is not entitled to the scholarship for the period covered by the outside assistance, and it resumes when the outside assistance stops (AICTE PG scheme guidelines 2023-24). Which of the two an institute applies is worth asking before you accept a second stipend.

AICTE publishes no renewal form for this scholarship and no annual re-submission step. The scholarship continues month by month, and what renews it is attendance: the institute marks and forwards the monthly attendance on the PG portal by the 15th of each month for disbursement by the 30th, per the AICTE PG scholarship FAQ. A month the principal or director marks not approved leaves the attendance record pending rather than verified (actions to be taken by students and institutes).

The academic condition is written as satisfactory academic performance and adherence to institute rules, certified by the Head of the Institute, alongside the obligatory work the scheme prescribes (AICTE PG scheme guidelines 2023-24). No semester-wise marks or CGPA threshold is published anywhere in the guidelines, so the standard that will be applied to you is your own institute's reading of that sentence. Ask the department what it is, in writing, at the start of the year.

Breaks are handled by pausing rather than cancelling. A break taken on medical grounds with the university's permission stops the scholarship from the month of the break and resumes it when the student rejoins, for the remaining period only, and a stretch spent on outside financial assistance is deducted from the maximum duration instead of being added to the end of it (AICTE PG scheme guidelines 2023-24).

Every kind of leave needs the university's prior approval, and none of it pushes the end date of the award further out (AICTE PG scheme guidelines 2023-24).

The timing of a payment is arithmetic rather than discretion. Once an Aadhaar-active account is on record the bank beneficiary code is generated within the next 15 days, and if that code comes through before the 20th of a month the scholarship is released at the end of that month, otherwise at the end of the next one (AICTE PG scholarship FAQ).

Scans go up in JPG, JPEG or PDF format, with the Aadhaar card in JPG or JPEG, and an EWS or OBC non-creamy-layer certificate has to be issued by the competent authority and be no more than one year old (AICTE PG scholarship notification 2025-26).

Two of the required papers are produced inside the process rather than collected before it. The bonafide certificate is downloaded from the student portal itself, signed by the Head of Institute and uploaded back (Manual for students on the new PG portal). Caste, tribe, non-creamy-layer and disability certificates need attestation by the institute principal or a gazetted officer, a certificate in any other language needs a notarised or principal-verified Hindi or English translation uploaded alongside the original, and everything else is self-attested by the candidate (general instruction page).

One quiet rejection trigger is worth checking before you upload anything, and it is a name. The institute is told to confirm that the name and Aadhaar number on the online form match the uploaded Aadhaar card, and that the name on the bank account matches the name on the GATE or GPAT score card, before it forwards the file (Responsibilities of Institutions).

AICTE's own operational manual reduces the whole scheme to four steps, and only one of them belongs to the student (Manual for students on the new PG portal).

1. The institute creates the student record on the PG portal, and the system generates a unique student ID.
2. AICTE mails the student a username, a password and that student ID; the student verifies the account, logs in, fills the application form with institute, course and score details, uploads the documents and submits.
3. The institute verifies the submitted data and approves the candidature.
4. The institute generates and approves the monthly attendance, and AICTE releases the scholarship by DBT into the Aadhaar-linked account.

The login link named in AICTE's current notification is its own PG scholarship portal, and the address moved with the ministry's domain change: the 2024-25 notification sent students to pgscholarship.aicte-india.org, while the 2025-26 notification sends them to pgscholarship.aicte.gov.in (2024-25 notification, 2025-26 notification).

Tracking is not a progress bar. It is a named status on the student portal, and each name says whose desk the file is on, which AICTE sets out in its note on actions to be taken by students and institutes. Verification awaited by Institute means the form is submitted and sitting with the college. Student Data Verified by Institute means the college has approved it and the record has moved on to the attendance screen. Data Entry Error, or Data Entry Error/Disapproved, means it has been sent back: the comments field carries the reason, and once the student corrects and resubmits, the status returns to verification awaited. Attachment/Information Update Pending by Student means only the blank fields can still be filled in. Document Verified by RIFD means the AICTE-side document check has cleared.

For the payment rather than the application, two things are worth doing. Download the filled application as a PDF from the portal after submitting, which the student manual shows as the last step, so you hold a record of exactly what was sent. Then check the Aadhaar seeding of the bank account, because a beneficiary code fails to generate when the Aadhaar is absent from the NPCI database or its status is inactive, and that is fixed at an Aadhaar enrolment centre or the bank rather than by AICTE (AICTE PG scholarship FAQ). Eligibility is the selection here. The scheme documents set out no interview and no ranking of one qualified applicant against another; what limits the awards is an intake number, fixed before any student applies. The count of PG scholarships in a programme is capped at that programme's AICTE-approved intake for the year, with an additional 10% over and above that intake for candidates the institute has admitted from the Economically Weaker Sections (AICTE PG scheme guidelines 2023-24).

One check does happen above the institute. After the college approves a record, an AICTE-side consultant examines the uploaded documents and either accepts them, setting the document status to Document Verified by RIFD, or rejects them, which pushes the student back to Data Entry Error/Disapproved with comments to act on (actions to be taken by students and institutes).

State admission authorities put the limit of all this in writing, which is useful because counselling season is when students assume the scholarship is automatic. Gujarat's Admission Committee for Professional Courses tells GATE and GPAT qualified candidates that awarding and managing the AICTE postgraduate scholarship is the admitting institute's responsibility, that the committee has no role in it, and that admission as a GATE or GPAT qualified candidate does not by itself bring the award (Admission Process for M.E./M.Tech./M.Pharm. courses, ACPC).

The scholarship is not free of duty. Every postgraduate scholar is obliged to put in 8 to 10 hours a week of teaching and research work assigned by the institute, which can be tutorials, laboratory classes, building and maintaining laboratories, assisting faculty research, running computers and other central facilities, or helping in the library (AICTE PG scheme guidelines 2023-24). Payment is expressly conditioned on that work being done.

The college gets nothing out of it. No salary grant and no contingency, library or book grant is admissible to any institute implementing the scheme, under a Ministry instruction the guidelines cite by letter number (AICTE PG scheme guidelines 2023-24).

Three closing conditions are worth knowing before a dispute rather than during one. A claim raised more than one year after the programme ends is not entertained. The amount changes only when the Ministry of Education notifies a change with the approval of the Council's Executive Committee. AICTE may add conditions as it sees fit, and its decision binds the university, the institute and the student (AICTE PG scheme guidelines 2023-24). Misconduct such as ragging can end the scholarship at any time on the recommendation of the Head of Institution.

AICTE splits the helpline in two, and sending a portal fault to the scheme desk is the usual reason a query goes unanswered.
