Overview

About PPMA

Padho Pardesh was a central government scheme of interest subsidy on education loans for overseas study, run by the Ministry of Minority Affairs. It fell under the Prime Minister's New 15 Point Programme for the Welfare of Minorities and was directed at students from the notified minority communities. The benefit took the form of a subsidy on the interest charged on an approved education loan, routed through the lending bank rather than paid to the student as cash.

The scheme was meant for meritorious students from economically weaker sections of these communities who had secured admission to postgraduate study abroad. It covered master's, M.Phil and Ph.D. courses across a defined set of disciplines, with an annual family-income limit and a cap on the loan amount that the subsidy would apply to.

On the myScheme portal, Padho Pardesh is now listed as closed and is not accepting fresh applications. Students looking for overseas or higher-education support from the Ministry of Minority Affairs should check the ministry's current, active schemes before planning around it.
