Overview

About PRIC

The Petrochemicals Research and Innovation Commendation (PRIC) is an annual recognition run by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, which sits under the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. It replaced the National Petrochemicals Awards that the department had operated since 2010-11.

The commendation felicitates meritorious innovations and inventions in petrochemicals, covering products, processes and other work of national and social importance. It is aimed at researchers, scientists, professors and industrialists working in the sector. Winners receive a citation and a memento conferred each year, so the benefit is recognition rather than a research grant.

The Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals implements the scheme, and the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) handled nominations for the first edition. Entries are screened by a committee headed by the Joint Secretary (Petrochemicals) before the commendations are conferred.
