Overview

About MAEFFS

The Maulana Azad Education Finance Foundation Scheme (MAEFFS) is run by the Minority Welfare Department, Government of Uttarakhand. It provides interest-free loans of up to ₹5 lakh to students from minority communities for higher education in India or abroad.

The support comes as a loan to an individual student, not a grant, and has to be repaid within three years of completing the course or on gaining employment, whichever comes first. The minority communities covered are Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Parsis, Buddhists and Jains.

To apply, a student must be a permanent resident of Uttarakhand, be aged between 18 and 35, have passed Class 12, and hold admission to a university, college or institute recognised by the Central or State Government or another competent authority, with annual family income from all sources not exceeding ₹2.5 lakh. The process is offline: the form is collected from the district office and submitted there by 31 August, and two guarantors are required.
