Overview

About ICARPMSSCSTC

The Post Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribes Candidates is run by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) through its Agricultural Education Division. ICAR sits under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. It supports SC and ST students who are studying for a bachelor's degree in agriculture and the allied sciences.

ICAR reserves a share of its junior and senior research fellowships for SC and ST candidates, but found that few students were reaching that stage. Its own rules note that the cost of an undergraduate course kept many students from weaker sections from finishing the degree in the first place. The scholarship is meant to close that gap at the undergraduate stage, so that more SC and ST students go on to postgraduate study and research in agriculture.

The scholarship is for SC and ST students already admitted to an agricultural university in any undergraduate programme of agriculture and allied sciences, such as B.Sc. (Agriculture), B.V.Sc., B.Sc. (Agricultural Engineering), B.Sc. (Home Science), B.F.Sc. and B.Sc. (Forestry). The benefit is cash: a monthly scholarship along with an annual contingent grant towards tuition, books and similar costs, paid for the normal duration of the degree. The scheme sets aside 240 awards each year, shared among agricultural universities in proportion to the SC and ST students they admit.
