Overview

About CM-CAB

Chief Minister Career Advancement in Biotechnology (CM-CAB) is a Kerala state fellowship for young faculty and scientists working in biotechnology. It is implemented by the Kerala Biotechnology Commission (KBC) under the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), which sits under the state's Science and Technology Department.

The fellowship funds a period of collaborative research training at a host institution, within India or abroad, so the fellow can pick up advanced techniques in emerging areas of the field and build working links with senior researchers. Where the host institution is in India, it pays ₹50,000 a month; where it is abroad, USD 1,500 a month in equivalent rupees. A contingency grant of up to ₹50,000 covers local travel, visa fees and insurance. The tenure runs three to twelve months within India, or three to six months abroad.

CM-CAB is meant for researchers already employed in Kerala, not for students. An applicant must be a permanent scientist or faculty member at an academic or research institute in the state, hold a Ph.D. in a biotechnology-related subject, and have a proven record of independent research shown through peer-reviewed publications or patents. The upper age limit is 37, with five years' relaxation for SC/ST and women candidates.
