About ABSKS
The Akhil Bhartiya Sanskrit Kavi Sammelan is a state scheme run by the Department of Sanskrit Education, Government of Uttarakhand. A kavi sammelan is a public gathering at which poets recite their own compositions before an audience; under this scheme the recitation is in Sanskrit. The department invites Sanskrit poets to present their work at events held to commemorate national and state festivals.
The aim is to promote and popularise Sanskrit language and literature by encouraging poets who compose and recite in Sanskrit. Selected poets from Uttarakhand and other states are called to read their verse at these events, and the scheme's benefit is a cash honorarium paid to each invited poet.
It is meant for individual Sanskrit poets who write and recite original work in the language. Uttarakhand runs a dedicated Sanskrit Education directorate that plans and oversees Sanskrit teaching across the state, and this sammelan sits within that wider effort to keep Sanskrit composition in active use.
