Overview

About WISE-SCOPE FELLOWSHIP

The Women in Science and Engineering-Societal Challenges with Opportunities (WISE-SCOPE) Fellowship is run by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India. It is a central government programme, and it sits within DST's wider WISE-KIRAN scheme, which groups the department's support measures for women in science and engineering.

WISE-SCOPE backs translational research: taking a scientific idea from the laboratory into the field to solve a practical social problem. Funded projects run across five applied-science themes, namely energy, water and waste management; health, food and nutrition; environment, climate change and sustainable development; agriculture and allied sciences; and engineering and technology development. The support is composite, pairing a fellowship for the woman scientist with grant funding to run the project.

It is meant for women scientists and technologists who hold a Ph.D. in the basic or applied sciences, or an equivalent degree such as an MD, MS or MDS, and who want to apply their science and technology knowledge and expertise to solving problems of society. DST fixes the selection, the fellowship rate and the project duration in each call for proposals.
