About WBTWSAE
The West Bengal Transport Workers' Social Security Scheme, 2010 is run by the Labour Department, Government of West Bengal, through its Labour Commissionerate. It provides social security to unorganised transport workers in the state, the drivers and workers on commercially used vehicles such as taxis, auto-rickshaws, tempos, lorries, trucks and buses, who enrol as beneficiaries. Registration now runs through the state's Bina Mulya Samajik Suraksha Yojana (BMSSY) portal.
This benefit is the education assistance the scheme pays for an enrolled worker's children. It is a one-time cash grant towards a child's education, covering study from the higher secondary level upward, including graduation, post-graduation and professional courses in engineering and medicine. The amount rises with the level of study, and it is paid to help meet the cost of a child's fees.
The education grant is one part of a wider package the scheme offers its members, which also includes a pension after the age of 60, relief in cases of death or disability, medical help for major illness, and assistance towards marriage. The scheme draws on the West Bengal Transport Workers' Social Security Fund. The support here is aimed at transport-worker families, easing the cost of a child's higher secondary and further education rather than paying the student directly.

Eligibility criteria
| The applicant must be between 18 and 60 years of age at the time of enrolment. | |
| The applicant must be an unorganized worker employed in the operation of commercial vehicles, such as cars, taxis, luxury taxis, light commercial vehicles, vans, auto-rickshaws, tempos, lorries, trucks, or buses. | |
| The applicant’s vehicle must be used for commercial purposes and not solely for personal or family use. |
