Overview

About FAFEOSCOB

This scheme provides cash assistance towards the schooling and higher studies of West Bengal's registered construction workers and their children. It is run by the state's Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board, a statutory body under the Labour Department, Government of West Bengal, which extends welfare support to the workers enrolled with it.

The Board draws its authority from the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996, which requires every state to set up such a board and lets it give financial assistance for the education of beneficiaries' children.

The education benefit is one strand of a wider welfare package the Board runs for construction labour, alongside accident relief, pension after 60, medical support and maternity benefits. For this scheme the support reaches a registered worker who is studying, or their children in Higher Secondary and above. Eligibility runs through registration with the Board, so a worker has to be enrolled as a beneficiary before applying for themselves or their family.
