Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT: Part Time PhD Candidates(VPHD_PT)
Overview
About VPHD_PT
The Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT is a doctoral research programme run by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and implemented by Digital India Corporation. The part-time track is one route within the scheme, meant for candidates who pursue a PhD while continuing in employment.
MeitY launched the scheme in March 2014 to raise the number of PhDs in Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) and IT and IT-enabled services (IT/ITES). A second phase was approved in September 2021 with an outlay of INR 481.93 crore, and it provides support for 150 part-time PhD seats alongside the full-time track.
The part-time component is aimed at working professionals and non-PhD faculty in the ESDM and IT/ITES areas who want to complete a doctorate without leaving their jobs. The benefit is a fellowship paid over the course of the PhD. Exact amounts, subject areas and eligibility are set out in the scheme details below.
