Pradhan Mantri Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana(PMVKY)
Overview
About PMVKY
Pradhan Mantri Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana is a central umbrella scheme run by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for the welfare of Scheduled Tribe communities. It bundles several tribal-development programmes under one framework: village infrastructure, education, research, and targeted help for the most marginalised groups.
In practice that means integrated village development under the Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojana, dedicated work for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), support to Tribal Research Institutes, and the Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarships that fund Scheduled Tribe students through school and beyond.
For a student, the two scholarships are the parts that matter most. The Pre-Matric award supports schooling in the years before the Class 10 board exams, while the Post-Matric award covers study from Class 11 onward, including college and higher courses. Both are meant for students from Scheduled Tribe families, and the exact income limits, amounts, and documents are listed in the eligibility and benefits sections below.
The Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana was first launched in 2014 and now operates as the ministry's main vehicle for tribal welfare, coordinating schemes that were earlier run separately.
