MANAGE Internship Programme(MIP)

Nothing about this scheme runs on a calendar. The programme sheet says internships are open year-round, the Citizen's Charter repeats it in its list of education services, and no opening date, last date or batch schedule appears on either.

The caution runs the other way instead. The programme sheet at manage.gov.in is headed 2019 to 2020, so the stipend slabs and the discipline list on it are as published in that document. Confirm both with the Director's office before you commit a semester to the plan.

The word agriculture in this scheme's tags is misleading. The programme sheet does not open the internship to agriculture degrees at all; it opens it to Ph.D. and M.Sc. candidates in a fixed set of extension and social science disciplines, and it adds a qualifier the aggregator pages drop: with research interest in rural studies. An agronomy postgraduate, a horticulture postgraduate or an agribusiness postgraduate is outside that set whatever their marks, because the discipline is read before anything else.

Two conditions sit on top of the discipline. The sheet sets an OGPA floor of 8 out of 10, written there as a minimum of 80%, and asks for fluency in English along with good writing skills, which follows directly from a deliverable that is a written paper. It applies that same floor to candidates who have completed the degree and to candidates still in it; where those two differ is the paperwork, not the bar.

Age is not a filter. The online application format makes age a mandatory field, but neither the form nor the sheet attaches an upper or lower limit to it.

Nobody is barred by category here. The programme sheet names no disqualified group, and the application format asks for no undertaking about past internships, employment or another award. What removes an applicant is failing the discipline line or the OGPA line, both of which are read before the proposal is opened.

The internship is priced as one stint, not as a term you carry forward. The programme sheet offers 3 months or 6 months and stops there: no clause on it, and none in the application format, describes an extension, a move from the shorter stint to the longer one, or a second internship for someone who has already finished one.

The stipend is tied to length, and the shorter internship carries a residential component the longer one does not mention.

One detail changes how a funded scholar should approach this. The application format asks whether you are already receiving a fellowship or scholarship, asks for its details, and then asks separately whether you require the MANAGE stipend, with a yes or no answer. The stipend is claimed, not automatically attached, and the Citizen's Charter records the fee position against Internships Programmes as MANAGE awarding a stipend to the selected interns. Beyond the money, the return is a Discussion Paper published under an institute of the agriculture ministry, which for an extension research scholar is a citable line rather than a certificate.

The recommendation letter is the item people get wrong. The programme sheet marks it with a footnote saying it applies only to degree ongoing students, so a scholar who has already finished the M.Sc. or Ph.D. is not being asked for the same signature as a student mid-course. Read that footnote on the sheet itself before you chase your department for a letter you may not need.

The tentative research proposal carries the weight. The application format caps it at a maximum of two pages and names exactly what those pages must hold: title, objectives, a selected review of literature covering national and international status, a work plan with brief methodology, study area, sampling plan and time schedule, and the expected outcome. Compressing a literature review with international coverage plus a sampling plan into that space is the real test in this application.

The CV and motivation letter travel as one upload and must be attested by both the Chairman and the Head of Department, which means two signatures to collect and therefore a lead time to plan for. The form also repeats a naming rule against every one of the three uploads: the file name has to be a single word of fewer than 20 characters including the extension. Rename your files before you start, because a rejected upload at that stage looks like a technical error rather than a rule.

There are two doors, and they are not alternatives so much as two forms of the same submission. The online application format at manage.gov.in takes the whole file, and its field order tells you what it is built to read: broad subject area, research specialisation, and the title of the proposed topical research come first, and your own name comes only after them. It then collects your institution and department, your HoD's name, landline, mobile and email, the name of your current PG research Chairman or Advisor, and the uploads. The programme sheet gives the email route instead: send the CV, motivation letter and recommendation letter to Dr. Saravanan Raj, Director (Agricultural Extension), MANAGE.

Check the address you are mailing, because the institute's own pages carry three of them. The sheet lists saravananraj.manage@gmail.com. The clarifications line at the foot of the application format lists saravanan.raj@manage.gov.in and saravananraj@hotmail.com. The manage.gov.in address is the safer default, since it is the institutional one.

On tracking, be realistic about what exists. MANAGE runs a separate Internship Login page that asks for a login and a password, but neither the application format nor the programme sheet says how those credentials are issued, so treat it as a portal you may be handed after selection rather than a status dashboard you can open on your own. Nothing else refreshes: the scheme has no application portal of its own, and the myScheme record for it carries no application link to follow. A status query therefore has to be an email, either to the Director (Agricultural Extension) office or to the officer the Citizen's Charter names against Internships Programmes, Dr. B. Venkata Rao, Assistant Director (Research Evaluation and Publication), at bvrao@manage.gov.in.

No marks scheme, no interview stage and no shortlist is published for this programme, and the application format carries no field that would feed one. What the Citizen's Charter sets out instead is the chain the institute runs on internships end to end: selection, admission, mentoring, conducting research, evaluation and publication. Selection is the first link in a chain whose last link is a paper, and the only substantive things in your file when that link is made are the two-page proposal and the attested CV. A topic that sits close to an existing MANAGE line of work, and a methodology that can genuinely be executed in the months you asked for, is what a reader in that position can act on.

The binding commitment is the paper. The Citizen's Charter counts internship-based publications against the number of interns in its own service standards, and it records the research work as published by MANAGE as a Discussion Paper rather than returned to the student as private coursework. Plan for that from the proposal stage: pick a study area you can actually reach and a sample you can actually collect.

Two smaller conditions follow from the documents. The attestation by the Chairman and the HoD ties your institution to the application, so a placement taken without your department's knowledge is not on the table. And free boarding and lodging is attached only to the 3 month option on the programme sheet, which means a 6 month intern should budget for accommodation in Hyderabad out of the higher stipend.
