AICTE-QUALITY IMPROVEMENT (FOREIGN UNIVERSITY) PROGRAMME(QIPFU)
Overview
About QIPFU
The AICTE Quality Improvement (Foreign University) Programme, or QIP-FU, is a central government scholarship for college faculty who want to earn a PhD abroad. It is administered by the All India Council for Technical Education, the statutory body under the Department of Higher Education that oversees technical education in India. AICTE approved the scheme at its 55th Council meeting on 14 August 2018, extending the older Quality Improvement Programme that the Government of India launched in 1970.
The purpose is to raise the share of teaching faculty who hold a doctorate. QIP-FU supports full-time regular faculty at AICTE-recognised degree-level institutions who secure admission to a PhD at one of the world's top 500 universities, ranked by QS, Times Higher Education, or the Shanghai (ARWU) list. Faculty who already hold a PhD fall outside its scope.
The benefit is a cash scholarship paid by AICTE for the first year of the doctoral programme. Faculty continue to draw their normal salary from their parent institution during the study leave, and in return give an undertaking to serve that institution for at least five years after completing the PhD.
