About PRE-DIS
The Pre-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities is a central government scholarship for children with disabilities studying in Classes IX and X. It is run by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), which sits under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and it forms one part of the department's Central Sector Umbrella Scheme of Scholarships for Students with Disabilities.
The scheme is meant to help students with disabilities stay in school and to bring down dropout rates at the pre-matric stage. Support is paid in cash rather than as a fee waiver: eligible students receive a maintenance allowance, a book grant, and a disability allowance. The pre-matric component covers Classes IX and X, while the post-matric and top-class components of the same umbrella scheme carry students further into higher education.
You apply through the National Scholarship Portal, the government's window for centrally funded scholarships. The scheme is aimed at individual students with a certified disability enrolled in Class IX or X, subject to the income ceiling and minimum disability threshold set out in DEPwD's scheme guidelines on depwd.gov.in.

Eligibility criteria
| The applicant should be an Indian national. | |
| The applicant should be a student with a benchmark disability and should have a valid disability certificate issued by the competent authority. | |
| The applicant should be a regular, full-time student studying in Classes IX and X in | A Government school; or |
| The applicant should be a regular, full-time student studying in Classes IX and X in | A school recognised by the Government; or |
| The applicant should be a regular, full-time student studying in Classes IX and X in | A school recognised by the Central/State Board of Secondary Education. |
| The applicant should be a regular, full-time student studying in Classes IX and X in | The applicant’s parents/guardian’s income from all sources should not exceed ₹2,50,000/- per annum. |
| The applicant should be a regular, full-time student studying in Classes IX and X in | Not more than 2 children with disabilities of the same parents will be eligible for benefits under the scheme. In case the second child is a twin, the scholarship will be admissible to both twins. |

Who cannot apply
Exclusions
- The applicant will not be eligible if he/she is already receiving another scholarship/stipend. The applicant may choose the more beneficial scholarship and inform the concerned authority.
- Scholarship will not be available for the same class for a second or subsequent year if the student repeats the class.

- Visually Impaired: ₹4,000.
- Hearing Impaired: ₹2,000.
- Physically Disabled (OH): ₹2,000.
- Intellectual Disabilities: ₹4,000.
- Other disabilities not covered above: ₹2,000.
