Food Safety & Standards Authority Of India (FSSAI) Internship Scheme(FSSAIIS)
Overview
About FSSAIIS
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India runs this internship programme to give students first-hand exposure to how food regulation and food safety administration work in the country. FSSAI is a statutory body set up under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and it is the apex body responsible for food safety and food standards across India. On myScheme the programme is listed under the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
Interns are attached to divisions at the FSSAI headquarters in New Delhi, its regional offices in Ghaziabad, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, and the National Food Laboratories. The work spans areas such as science and standards, regulation, Codex, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, legal, finance and information technology, so what you do depends on the division you are placed with. The internship runs on a quarterly cycle through the year, for a minimum of two months and up to a maximum of six. Deserving interns may receive a stipend of up to Rs 10,000 for the internship period on the recommendation of their division, and a certificate from the concerned FSSAI office follows successful completion.
The programme is open to students currently pursuing a full-time graduate, postgraduate or higher degree at a recognised institution. The eligible disciplines are wide, covering food technology and food science, chemistry and biochemistry, microbiology, biotechnology and life sciences, public health and toxicology, along with business administration and management, law, journalism and mass communication, public policy and public administration, and computer science or IT for later-year engineering students. Interns must bring their own laptop; FSSAI provides workspace and internet but does not cover lodging or travel.
