Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Pre-matric Scholarship to Other Backward Classes (OBC) for Studies in India(CSSPREMSOBCSI)
Overview
About CSSPREMSOBCSI
The Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Pre-matric Scholarship to Other Backward Classes (OBC) for Studies in India is run by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It is meant for school-going children from poorer OBC families, and its stated objective is to give financial help towards their education up to the matriculation stage. The benefit is a cash scholarship: ₹100 a month for day scholars (from Class 1) and ₹500 a month for hostellers (from Class 3), paid across the 10 months of the academic year, with an ad-hoc grant of ₹500 a year on top. It runs until the end of Class 10.
Eligibility rests on two tests. The student must belong to an Other Backward Class, evidenced by an OBC caste certificate, and the parents' or guardians' income from all sources must not exceed ₹2,50,000 a year. The scholarship holds only at institutions and pre-matric courses recognised by the concerned State Government or Union Territory, requires at least 60% attendance in the previous year, and cannot be drawn alongside any other pre-matric scholarship. Of the awards, 30% are reserved for girls and at least 5% for students with disabilities. Applications are made online through the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in.
